Yesterday Grumpy and I headed down to Mullalyup for The Mullalyup Muster.
We headed off a little late because we first stopped in at the St Jerome's Primary School fete. And what a fete! There was a jumping castle, raffles, a range of guess-the-number-of-things-in-the-jar-and-win, a rummage sale, fairy floss, fresh fruit and vegies, a cake stall and, most importantly, a tapestry of Pope John Paul II complete with a cheesy grin. I wanted to take it home and hang it in the bedroom but Grumpy was oddly and disappointingly reluctant.
Anyway, it was a lovely drive through the fields and dales to Mullalyup. And we even bought a painting, which left us feeling a little grown up and pretentious.
The best part of the day was on the way home when we took a diversion to Gnomesville. We wandered for half an hour or so among the hundreds of gnomes that have set up home by the roadside. My favourite was the Professor of Ecognomeics. It really was delightful to walk along the little pathways finding more clusters of gnomes here and there. The one hanging upside down from a tree was a bit creepy. We saw him just on dusk and not long after I could have sworn we heard the pitter patter of little feet in the forest behind us, and strange, unwelcoming laughter. I think the gnomes prefer day time visitors. At night they have business to attend to. Just stay the hell away.
