Not Like Kinder

Okay, here's the thing: when you've been burning a candle and you blow it out and a bit of embersome wick floats up into the air and then lands on a surface and sits there glowing so you try gather it up and somehow it ends up on your fingernail, glowing away, you'd be surprised how quickly, and painfully, you feel the heat of that ember through your fingernail. Or maybe you wouldn't be. Surprised that is.

didn't you ever stick your finger in the melted wax on the candle so that you could then peel it off after it had hardened and look at your finger prints? Or was that only me?

and then realise how hot it is and try and wipe it off with the other finger... and then realise you now have two burning fingers... and now try and blow on them to cool them down... and find out the thermodynamic properties of hot liquid wax differ from most other liquids... eventually when it does cool you peel it off and look at the finger prints... or was that only me?

Oh yeah, I did the melted wax thing - much the way d. describes it. But this wasn't wax; this was an ember, on my finger nail, transmitting heat to the sensitive pulp underneath the finger nail.

Okay, I've officially made my own skin crawl. "Sensitive pulp".
