This morning as I walked home, after my sunrise constitutional, I crossed a patch of the neighbour's lawn that was filled with prickles.
That got me thinking about how my sneakers would have prickles stuck all over them.
That got me thinking about how handy it is to live in a house with floorboards, because there's no carpet for the prickles to get caught in and surprise you later when you're walking round in bare feet.
That got me thinking about how the same was true of so many of the houses of my childhood - all these houses being north-west classics and completely floored with lino.
That made me burst into song, trilling "la la la la linoleum!" and made me wonder if it's still possible to get a copy of Bert's Blockbusters.
It is.

Oh my gosh. I have been known to go around singing "La la la linoleum" (just that bit, I don't know the rest) for no reason at all. It's a great song, the only one of Bert's I remember. I wonder what makes it so memorable?
You say you sing "la la la la linoleum" and you wonder what makes it so memorable?? Pshaw!
They'll never understand the kind of fun I find...
Ah. It's because we're all a little bit Bert, don't you think?
Old buddy Bert.
oh, that must be the song covered on For The Kids that we played over and over for The Booper. She'll sing it for you.
