On the weekend Grumpy and I were enjoying a late-afternoon drive down the coast to Safety Bay. And what could be better as you tool along next to the ocean at the end of a sunny, warm, winter day than to take in some AM radio?
"Ride Like the Wind" came on and Grumpy turned up the radio - "Hey, Chris Cross!"
Chris Cross? I didn't realise they were on such good terms.
We listened for a minute and then Grumpy said, "Are those backing vocals being sung by the guy from the Doobie Brothers?"
We agreed it sounded just like Michael McDonald and then listened some more.
"In fact," said Grumpy, "this whole song sounds very Doobie-esque."
I tend to leave the musical deconstruction to him so could only shrug.
When he next spoke his voice was bewildered, dismayed and quivering, "All these years, Chris Cross is just some Doobie rip-off!"
I felt the foundations of his world shift and my heart broke, just a little, for him.

I thought Cris Cross did an excelent job with their little romp "Jump"!!!
Ha ha, ho ho.
I so wanted to get a Criss Cross joke in there, but it wouldn't happen.
He sang Arthur's Theme - you know, "When you get caught between the moon and New York City" - pukey stuff, really.
And, it should be obvious, he also sang "Ride Like the Wind".
But not Break Like the Wind.
Soooo..you're not talking about Chris Christopherson then?? ;)
Life is, indeed, cruel.
God forbid you'd ever have to walk a mile in his shoes.
It's hard to lug Lucille and be referred to as 'King of the Blues'.
Tuesday. Tuesday is the last day you blogged, HBB. I do feel a little more dedication to the task at hand is in order. A day or so off is acceptable, but if you don't get organised and start blogging, I may have to do something desperate like go out and get a life of my own. So lift your game, babygirl!
