Mmm, it *does* go well with the chicken.

"Delicious again, Peter!"

My favourite meal in the whole wide world is Grumpy's apricot chicken: his mashed potapum is nearly always a hit but has been known to occasionally miss; it must be admitted there have been spats over the spaghetti bolognaise; but the apricot chicken is a bloody marvel every time.

If heaven exists and I make it there, I hope my eternal reward is to be dished up night after night Grumpy's apricot chicken. And also to have a never-ending appetite for it. Otherwise, some reward that'd turn out to be. Bah!

The only thing that can catapult this meal to even loftier heights is if there's any leftover rice and rich, stewy sauce. Then what you do is you take some of the rice and put it in a container with the sauce to save for tomorrow's lunch, whereupon you zap it in the microwave and savour some of the previous evening's gastronomic deluxity. The rest of the rice, the rice that hasn't been reserved for tomorrow (thank God it's only a day away), you chuck in a saucepan and simmer over a low heat with milk, cream, powdered milk, sugar (and a little cornflour to thicken) and then you plop back into your seat and chow down on some rice pudding.

The rest of the evening is spent prostrate on the couch, gargling with pleasure and marvelling at the wonder of elastic-waisted pants.

and making mental notes not to wear control top pantyhose the next day! (Incidentally, have you combined Grumpy's Apricot Chicken - I do believe those capitals are deserved - with his mashed potatum? That sounds like it might be culinary heaven to me!)
