Response Time

Just north of Kojonup there's a roadhouse and just before the roadhouse is a speed sign indicating to drivers that they should (well, let's face it, must) slow down to 90 km/h. Well, I saw the sign and I did intend to slow down; in fact I'd eased off on the accelerator and was slowing down, just not all the way. Then I saw the policemen in their fluoro yellow vests waving me over to the side of the road. I pulled into the roadhouse car park and waited for the cop to wander over to me.

"Did you see the 90 sign back there?"

(meekly) "Yes."

"We've got you going at 99."

"I know. I was slowing down - I just hadn't got right down yet."

"Hardly the biggest sin in the world. I'm going to give you a warning, but do slow down next time, okay?"

Then he saw my rego sticker, which expired in November last year.

"The thing is," I said, "I've got the new sticker in my glove box. I just haven't got round to swapping them over yet."

"Will you do it when you get home?"

"Oh sure!"

"Off you go then."

What a nice man. I'm pretty sure my rego sticker is in my glove box. If it isn't, I don't know where it is.

Is that the 'town' of Beaufort....where all that actually makes up the town is the roadhouse?
