We've Run Dry

Grumpy's been working pretty damn hard and putting in some long hours. As I was standing at the kitchen bench last night in full wifely mode, chopping vegetables, cooking chook, he came staggering in the door, reached for a beer and said, "Boy am I glad that day's over." He sighed for a bit and then wandered outside to track down the cats.

After a while he came back in and grabbed another beer. "Did I say how glad I am that today's over?" He sighed a bit more and then mooched off.

About ten minutes later he was back in my vicinity, looking around and looking vaguely bored and heaving a few more sighs.

"Yes," I said, "Yes you have mentioned that you're glad today's over."

Later on we were eating our meal and watching TV. The latest Nando's ad came on. You know, the one with the pole dancer who later joins her family for dinner.

I laughed. "Hey, I told you, didn't I, that this ad is a favourite topic of conversation at work?"

"Yeah. Yeah, you said that."

About one hour later, there was the same ad. I started to open my mouth.

"Yes," said Grumpy. "You've already told me."
