The Hand in the Hole

Last night on the footpath outside Hollywood Hospital I noticed that someone had once written when the cement was wet, all in caps and all completely evenly spaced:

T O M I S

I looked in vain for any further writing to clarify the mystery. I could only conclude that the cement was poured by a fellow with an unusually spelled name who nevertheless took pride and ownership in his work, or that someone was in the middle of telling us exactly what or who Tom is when they were killed by a meteorite.

Such is life.

Was there a great big hole next to the word?
