Fangle Dangle

Just before the 2000 Olympics - the winner ith Thydney! - Grumpy and I decided it was time to get a new TV. It was so exciting bringing our baby home - for years we'd been squinting at the screen of the 25-year-old Panasonic his mum & dad had handed over. But now we had this big, gleaming silver thing dominating our lounge room, not to mention our attention.

There was a great feeling of satisfaction as we got all the cords plugged into the right holes and the channels tuned in and the mighty appliance set just so for optimum viewing pleasure. Then we sat back and switched it on. What a ghastly surprise to find that $900 later, all the shows still sucked.

That was one rude awakening, let me tell you.

So, over the weekend we got new computers at work. What a pleasure to come in on Monday morning to find everything working. And the computers - so shiny and new, with flat screens! Everyone has been dancing in the hallways, flinging flowers in the air, marvelling at how clean our desks look. And the keyboard keys don't clack away like the old keyboard did - they have substance to them. It was so satisfying to log in this morning.

But you can see where this is going, can't you?

Despite the new look and feel, despite all this cleanness and freshness and minty gleamy whiteness...

work still sucks.

The End
