We were watching Melvyn Bragg's "The Adventure of English" and it came to a discussion of the changes wrought on the language by the Battle of Hastings. As Melvyn's voice purred from the TV, the camera slowly moved across images from the Bayeux Tapestry.
Grumpy (God love him, probably not realising what he was looking at) said, "See how primitive those pictures are?"
Me: "Hmmm."
Grumpy: "But note how they took the time to include the horses' balls*?"
*He actually said cruets. I am married to a man who refers to all things testicular as cruets.

Caught Mr Bragg's show again last night. They were putting said tapestry to good use again. Cruets noted.
