Wild in the City

Down on Mounts Bay Road there is an empty block of land - a very large block - covered in lush, uninhibited growth. In places you can see the old concrete foundations of a building that used to be there poking out from underneath vines and bushes.

I like to imagine the block staying like that for years, getting wilder and wilder. Not some council-designated, neat piece of greenery that knows its place; something ramshackle and ravenous that can barely be confined by the artificial boundaries of this block. Kids would want to explore it. Probably adults too. All this wildness in the city, and only a few metres away people fretting over trial balances and intellectual property.

But sure enough, there's a sign propped up in the corner advertising the shiny new multi-storey building that is going to be constructed there. Of course.

Clancy of the Overflow ain't seen nothing yet.
