A Billboard Lovely as a Tree

Lovely. The plane trees have suddenly pushed forth fresh greenery. The new leaves are so bright and full of promise, particularly against a sunny spring sky. Who says blue and green should never be seen? The lorikeets have flocked to the trees in abundance. Raaaark! Such naughty fellows. Be good, loris!

My favourite tree - in the whole world - would have to be the eucalyptus maculata. Majestic and dignified trees. And yet not above providing shelter and relief. Wherever there is a spotted gum, no matter how hot the day, a cool breeze always seems to be blowing. And just knock against that solid, reliable trunk.

This tree is a rock.

In King's Park, spotted gums line Fraser Avenue. In the evening the upper reaches of the trees are lit up by the pinky sunset light. An avenue of softly glowing candles.
